Bob Jones gets new soccer coach

Students at Bob Jones are “fired up” over getting a new Varsity Boys soccer coach.

Spiller said he feels the team could be the best in the state. He said he is prepared to work hard and he feels that the team will have a great season.

Uwe Spiller will take over the team starting with the 2011 season.

“I’m very excited about being here,” Spiller said after Principal Robby Parker introduced him to a room full of prospective players. “This is quite a big challenge for me. I’m looking forward to having a very successful year.

Spiller told the boys that he wants to turn the team around and build a dynasty.

“I think we have something special in the city and I encourage everyone to come and try out,” he said.

Spiller, a German native, has been playing soccer since age 6. He enlisted in the military and played on its soccer team as well. He moved to the Huntsville/Madison area in 1990 and has been coaching community and club soccer teams, including the Huntsville Futbol Club, Kicks and the Madison Sharks.

“I think this school has a good opportunity to be good and they should make the playoffs every year,” he said. “I feel that we can have one of the best teams in the state.”
