BJHS, Sparkman split boys’, girls’ games

Four Patriots scored in double digits Friday to lead the Bob Jones boys’ basketball team to victory over the rival Sparkman Senators, 72-64.

The Patriots jumped out to a commanding lead early in the game, leading by as much as 10 in the opening quarter.

The Senators came storming back to cut the deficit to 27-24 at the half, before taking the lead in third quarter.

Sparkman took a one-point lead early in the second half, and the game was back-and-forth throughout the third quarter.

Following the Senators’ go-ahead three, Kyle Dennis answered with a three to put the Patriots back on top.

Jamar Pope, however, answered the three to regain the Senators’ lead.

The ensuing Patriot possession brought the crowd to its feet when Dennis hit Levi Randolph for an ally-oop dunk, but the Senators answered once again when Pope put down a thundering dunk on the next possession.

Cade Johnson tied the game for the Patriots on a pair of free throws to end the third, and then Bob Jones outscored the Senators 24-16 in the final quarter to take the win.

Jeffrey Moss led the Patriots with 18 points, followed by Randolph with 17 points, Reggie Ragland with 16 points and Dennis with 11.

For Sparkman, Pope had a team-high 17 points, followed by Andre Thurman with 14 points.

Dominique Henley scored a game-high 15 points Friday to lead the Sparkman Lady Senators to a 50-36 victory over the Bob Jones Patriots.

The Senators held a seven-point lead at the half, but the Patriots cut the lead to five in the third quarter before Sparkman pulled away in the final quarter.

Alexis Butler was next for the Senators with 13 points, followed by Sharin Rivers and Alexis Jennings with nine points apiece.

For Bob Jones, Rikeyah McKinnon, Jasmine Jones and Tierra Jones each had eight points.
