BJHS girls returning to Elite 8

Bob Jones vs. Bessemer City

DeAsha Campbell goes up for a shot during the Lady Patriots' 50-24 Sweet 16 victory over Bessemer City in the regionals at Wallace State Community College at Hanceville.

For the fourth year in a row, the Bob Jones Lady Patriots will square off with the cross-town rival Sparkman Senators in the Elite 8, as the Patriots made easy work of the Bessemer City Purple Tigers, 50-24.

The Patriots keyed in defensively on junior guard Chelsee Black in the win, with Black finishing with 14 points on just 4-of-15 from the floor.

“That was our main objective,” Bob Jones head coach Tim Miller said of shutting down Black.

The Patriots were led by Tierra Jones with 13 points, Katie Colson with 10 points and nine rebounds and Jasmine Jones with seven points and 14 rebounds.

“We’ve been searching for all three of them to show up in the same game,” Miller said of Colson, Tierra and Jasmine. “We’ve been searching for execution for four quarters all season long and we’re still searching for it.”

The win sets up the Patriots to face off against the Senators for the 8th time in the last 10 years.

The Patriots have won the last three regional finals against the Senators, with the Senators taking the finals in 2007.

However, the Senators have won the previous two games this season.

“That’s even more motivation for us to keep going,” Colson said.      `
