High school teams heads to Las Vegas to compete

During the week of March 21, 2011, six innovative, bright, and creative problem-solving Bob Jones High School students will travel to Las Vegas to represent the Southeastern Region at the 2011 Construction Challenge National Finals.

The Construction Challenge (www.constructionchallenge.org) is a partnership between Destination Imagination, the world’s largest creative problem-solving organization for students, and AEM (the Association for Equipment Manufacturers).

CC grew as an effort to expose bright, energetic students to the construction and engineering industries because of the imminent concern that the sponsor companies have regarding their dwindling workforce. These students will be tomorrow’s future engineers, government leaders, and program managers.

The challenge is held in conjunction with ConAg/ConExpo, the largest trade show in the world. The Bob Jones team is one of only 24 high school teams chosen from all over the United States and Canada. The team earned the right to advance to the national competition during the Regional Rally in Atlanta on Jan. 22 as the only competitor from the state of Alabama.

They are one of only two teams that will represent the Southeastern Region.

Team members are Thomas Hadden, Ashley Dorsett, Alexis Edeogho, Matthew Goforth, Daniel Johnson, Claudia Mesnil, Priya Ganatra, and Cody Wheeler. The team is being sponsored locally by donations from Davidson, STEM grant allocations by employees of Bentley Systems, and Nucor Steel.

Volvo is the team’s national corporate sponsor.
