Columbia students learn about the final frontier

Students in Marta Coles' third grade class at Columbia Elementary School show their excitement about learning about outer space.

Columbia Elementary School students will be spaced out this week.

From Monday, April 18 to Friday, April 22, students at the school are celebrating Space Week.

“This is just an important way for students to know history of space exploration and that when they put their minds to it, anything is possible,” said Columbia Principal Nelson Brown. “This is a good message for them to know there are no boundaries to knowledge.”

The entire week will be dedicated to NASA and learning more about human exploration of the Final Frontier.

Monday, students received NASA goodie bags and a NASA sticker.

Tuesday, for Team Launch, each student will wear his or her favorite sports t-shirt.

Students are encouraged to wear space-related t-shirts on Wednesday. The Space and Rocket Center will give presentations throughout the day to first through sixth grades.

Thursday is Out of This World, where students are to wear mixed up colors. NASA will be giving a presentation to the school’s kindergarten and developmental classes.

To wrap the week up, students are to wear the school’s ASTROS shirt.

A mobile shuttle will be on display in front of the school all week. Students will also receive astronaut training throughout the week in P.E.
