Madison Academy sweeps Sylvania in first round

The Madison Academy Mustangs swept the Sylvania High School Rams Friday, April 23, 24-11.
The Mustangs scored 18 runs in two games and allowed only three.
“It was a pretty good start for us. We really hit the ball well tonight and especially when we had two outs,” said Coach Mike Good. “We took an aggressive approach to the games by making Sylvania worry about our runners and drawing a lot of throws from their pitchers.”
Good said by doing that, the team was able to get into favorable pitch counts and get good pitchers to hit.
“We were able to execute tonight, and it was a pretty good start for the first round of the playoffs,” he said.
The game one starter for MA was Drew Mobley. He had eight strike-outs and allowed six hits, while giving up only two runs.
“I didn’t really have my best stuff tonight,” Mobley said. “I just wasn’t really ever comfortable tonight for some reason. I think I did okay, but I know I can do better.”
The Mustangs took the lead in the second inning and never trailed after that. In the second, the Mustangs had a couple of batters reach on errors and then got three hits from Zach Adams, Ben Seabrook, and Clayton Palicki.
These three hits accounted for the runs in the second with Adams getting two RBIs and Seabrook and Palicki one each. MA had 11 hits in game one with Jared Brinson having 2 singles, Seabrook with two singles, Palicki with two doubles, Chad Key with two singles, and Zach Adams with a triple and a single. The Mustangs won the game by a score of 9-2, and Mobley pitched the complete game. Josh Clayton took the loss for the Rams.
Game two got off to a fast start for Madison Academy. They were the visitors and blasted Sylvania’s ace in the top of the first.
The Mustangs had six hits in the top of the first and scored five runs in that inning to set the tone for game two. The team had 10 hits for the game. Drew Mobley had a homerun, Clayton Palicki had a single and double, Ian Rice had two singles, and Spencer Palmer had two singles. Ben Seabrook got the start on the mound in game two. He pitched four innings, allowing three hits and striking out five.
“I wasn’t getting my curve ball over tonight because my hands were so sweaty,” Seabrook said. “I thought we had a pretty good couple of games but I don’t think we played our best. We hit the ball well tonight and that really takes some of the pressure off the pitchers.”
Spencer Palmer, Clayton Palicki, and Zac Adams each had one-inning relief appearances as the Mustangs took game 2 by a score of 9-1. Seabrook got the win. Josh Shrader took the loss for the Rams.
