Cancer society holding back to school fashion show fundraiser
Members of the Madison Chapter of the American Cancer Society are holding a fashion show fundraiser to raise money for people with cancer.
The fashion show will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 in the auditorium at Bob Jones High School. Tickets are $5.
This is the first year the committee has held this type of event.
“Doing a fashion show helps enable the younger generation to become involved,” said Coordinator Beth Haynes. “This gets them thinking about other people and other causes and involved in philanthropy.”
The show will feature 40 models ages 3 to 18. Bon Chic and Posh Mommy clothing stores have been confirmed to donate clothes for the show, but Haynes said she hopes to have at least six sponsors total.
The winning model will be featured in an issue of Madison Living magazine. To vote for the models, Haynes said boxes will be placed in stories around town for $2 per vote.
I think everybody is effected by the disease,” said owner of Bon Chic Vanita Kumar. “It’s a very good cause and I will always support it.”
Kumar donated dresses, jeans, handbags and jewelry.
“It’s a fun, but serious fundraiser,” Kumar said. “Everyone can enjoy it but it’s also helping something that will benefit everyone.”
“We encourage the community to come out and support kids in the show and help support the society,” Haynes said. “Everybody knows somebody who has cancer. Help us find a cure so people can have more birthdays.”
