At its Aug. 4 meeting, the Madison Rotary Club presented Melvin Allen, executive director of the Harvest Youth Club in the Lockhart community, with a $10,250 check for the rebuilding of the playground destroyed by the April 27 tornado.

The Youth Club provided meals to victims from the Lockhart community and other Harvest areas damaged by the tornados.

The gift represents the combined efforts of the Madison Rotary Club and Rotary’s Alabama Tornado Donor Advised Fund, a special fund established by Rotary District 6860 after the April Tornados.

Allen and his wife, Sylvia, formed the Youth Club in 2006 where they mentored and supported children from the community and the surrounding area.

“Good things happen when good people come together,” Allen said.

Madison Rotary Club belongs to the 1.2 million member-Rotary International.  Members use their professional expertise, influence and resources to serve local communities and the world, modeling the Rotary motto, “Service above self.”
