Madison business holding dance off for St. Jude

Dance Trance in Madison is holding a dance off in an effort to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

This is the second year Wyndie Meyer, Dance Trance owner, has held a dance off.

“Last year, we had about 30 people, this year, we’re still getting the word out,” Meyer said.

The fee to participate in the dance off is $35. Meyer said all proceeds will go toward St. Jude.

“You dance as long as you can dace,” she said.

Meyer will also have shirts that read, “I don’t dance because I’m happy. I am happy because I dance.”

Meyer’s 11-year-old son, Ben, had a benign tumor almost three years ago. Ben still attends St. Jude every six months for checkups.

“We travel there and we see the awesome work that St. Jude does all the time,” she said.

Dance Trance’s fundraising goal this year is $1,000.

Money can be donated on dance trance’s Facebook page: Facebook.com/DanceTranceHM

“Childhood cancer is the number one killer for children,” she said. “It’s really important that we start fighting his because they are our future.”

The dance off will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19 at Dance Trance, located at 7449 Highway 72 W # C-D.

The Workout for St. Jude “Dance 4 Life” event can be sponsored by anyone wanting to appear as a local celebrity. Donations are being accepted from individuals and local businesses who wish to donate to the event via door prizes or snacks for the day of the event or simply spreading the word.

The public can get involved through volunteering or supporting / communicating this event and by bringing friends and family to the event.

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases. Founded by late entertainer Danny Thomas and based in Memphis, Tenn. St. Jude freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world. No family ever pays for treatments not covered by insurance, and families without insurance are never asked to pay.
