Businesses team up to help seniors

People can "adopt a senior" at Christmas trees at Kroger stories in Madison County.

One business is making sure senior have a happy Christmas this holiday season.

Home Instead Senior Care is doing its part to provide Christmas to more than 1,200 senior citizens.

Home Instead has placed Christmas trees in Kroger stores through Huntsville and Madison. The ornaments on the trees all contain seniors’ wish lists.

“We started the program nine years ago just as a way to give back to he seniors here in the community that are needy,” said Julie Smith, marketing director. “We are in the homes everyday providing caregivers, and this was a way for us to reach those in the population that are most needy.”

Local businesses submitted names of those in need in the area.

“Many of the things they ask for are sheets, towels and food,” Smith said. “The number one most requested item is gift cards for food.”

For anyone unable to visit one of the locations, contact Home Instead Senior Care directly at (256) 883-3080, email hiscmkting@aol.com or visit Beasantatoasenior.com.
