Heritage Elementary vandalized Sunday

Davenport said clean-up efforts started immediately and are almost complete.

Heritage Elementary School was vandalized Sunday evening.

School Principal Dr. Lydia Davenport said someone broke into the building and sprayed fire extinguishers throughout the school, excluding the gym, office and library.

Davenport said chair tracks lead them to believe the person or persons responsible rolled around the school. She said several classrooms were sprayed on the second floor.

“They sprayed everything,” she said, “computers, bathroom stalls, wash areas and water fountains.”

The dried dust from the extinguishers caused the fire alarm to signal.

Heritage is currently hosting summer school for second grade Madison City Schools students. The students were transferred into the school library today.

Davenport said clean-up efforts started immediately and are almost complete.

“Nothing was stolen that we know of at this present time,” Davenport said. “Damage with the computers and some other things we’re trying to clean. Going to see if the computers are still workable.”
