Boone new director of education for MCS

Madison County Schools has welcomed a new director of elementary education.

Lorraine Boone will officially start the position July 1.

“She brings a variety of experiences with her as an elementary principal with a special ed background,” said Geraldine Tibbs, MCS spokeperson. “She will be an asset to the instructional department.”

Boone has worked for Madison County Schools for 21 years and has been in education for 30. She has worked as a classroom teacher, a special education teacher, an assistant principal, principal and has been the director of Special Education for Madison County for the past two years.

Boone holds degrees from Talladega College, Jacksonville State University, Alabama A&M University and the University of Alabama.

She is a native of Talladega County and has taught in Talladega County Schools, Harris Home for Children and Ulm American School in Germany.

She is taking over the position from Dr. Rita Cantrell, who accepted a job as Director of Curriculum with Buford City School System in Buford, Ga.

“We’re looking forward to what she has to offer,” Tibbs said.
