Martin brings wellness message to book signing

Joe Martin has collected proven fitness regimens in his book “The Wellness Code.” Madison Public Library will host his book signing on July 22 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Joe Martin will have a book signing for "The Wellness Code" on July 22 at Madison Public Library.

Martin’s book shares advice from health, fitness and wellness experts from around the world. Martin intends “to help people reach their top potential and get them looking, feeling and performing at an optimal level.”

In Chapter 1, “The Fit Mom Mindset,” he convinces “all moms to realize it’s not selfish to take time out to exercise. Their entire family would actually benefit from it.”

“The book does speak more of a ‘grown-up’ crowd, because it does focus so much on health and fitness, as opposed to books focusing on six-pack abs,” he said.

He also explains “the perfect burpee,” or a squat thrust followed by jumps. “It’s a great exercise that works on strength and cardiovascular fitness,” Martin said.

Martin founded the Huntsville Adventure Bootcamp for Women. Camper Kim ‘Zoot’ Holmes said the boot camp “is an opportunity to change your life for the better alongside other women striving to do the same.”

“That’s what it’s all about — changing lives through fitness, nutrition, laughter, accountability and sweat,” Martin said. He conducts the female-only camps at Weatherly Elementary School in Huntsville and Bob Jones High School in Madison.

Martin also has written “The 21-Day Tight and Toned Transformation” and “21-Day Belly Blast.” To succeed as an author, Martin writes about “what I’m passionate about.”

In high school, Martin had to write about “The Canterbury Tales.” “I was miserable,” he said. “But I love writing about fitness and motivation. If you go in thinking that whatever you are writing could change someone’s life, then it really seems to guide you the right way.”

As owner of Joe Martin Fitness LLC, he does online personal training, health coaching and kid’s fitness.

His wife Jessica is assistant director of nursing at HGA Home Health. Their son Brendan will enter first grade at Chaffee Elementary School.
