Lady Patriots to play for State Championship

The Bob Jones Lady Patriots are exactly where they expected prior to the start of the 2025-2026 season of high school basketball after they advanced to the Class 7A State Chmapionship Game scheduled for Saturday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in Birmingham.

Bob Jones made a comeback that will not soon be forgotten in the semi-final battle against Auburn (24-6) winning the game 65-63. Down by as many as 14-points in the first half, due mostly to 12 turnovers, which in turn the Tigers scored 21 points off those Patriots mistakes, Bob Jones showed true grit cutting the Auburn lead to nine at halftime and came out like a new team in the second half outscoring Auburn 34-23 in the second half, and with some superb defense by the likes of Alaya Obianozie and Ella Watts took the lead in the third quarter on a Jael Robinson layup and took control to the end. Bob Jones (25-6) was led by Ella Watts 29 points while Ja’Kyah Smith added 24.

The most telling statistic of the game was the fact Bob Jones was 97-percent from the free throw line while Auburn shot just 47-percent missing 16 shots from the stripe.
