Couple pleads guilty in animal cruelty case

The couple accused of animal cruelty in Madison has pleaded guilty.

James Lin, 73, and his wife, Patricia, plead guilty to animal cruelty charges at their arraignment in Madison Municipal Court Friday. The charges stemmed from a June 14 case at their home on Crestview Drive in Madison where 46 dogs had to be euthanized as a result of disease and unsanitary living conditions. One had died in the house.

The Lins have been ordered to pay $1,772 in fines and court costs on two of the 47 charges.

Police said the court, pending completion of additional court orders, is suspending the rest of the charges. Police also said the Lins must pay $1,500 distributed among the organizations that assisted in the adoption of the remaining dogs. These include M.A.R.F., the ARK, Madison Small Paws Rescue, All American Dachshund Rescue and the Pet Hospital of Madison.

The Lins have also been prohibited by the court from collecting any more dogs within the city. The court could order additional penalties if the Lins fail to comply with the orders. The couple had previously reimbursed Whitworth Animal Clinic who initially examined all of the dogs after they were removed from the house.
