Sci-Quest moving to Madison in 2013

The new home will be at 9076 Madison Boulevard in the Madison Village Shopping Center, adjacent to Old Time Pottery. The 36,000 square foot building is well-suited to be rapidly transformed into Sci-Quest’s new facility.

It has been kept under wraps for the past couple weeks, but the secret is finally out.

Sci-Quest is moving to Madison in February 2013.

The announcement was made in a press conference Friday morning by Executive Director Cyndy Morgan that a standalone building will be constructed in the Madison Village shopping center, located on Madison Boulevard, adjacent to Old Time Pottery.

“After looking at locations all over the Huntsville-metro area, we had a list of items we knew we needed for the new science center,” Morgan said. “The property in Madison checked all those boxes.”

Sci-Quest’s staff and board of directors scouted the area for five months, searching for the perfect location. At 36,000 square feet, the new building will be located at 9076 Madison Blvd. The expected open date is Feb. 1 2013. Sci-Quest currently shares a building with Calhoun Community College, where it has been since its opening in 1999.

“We saw some great properties, talked to great organizations and Realtors across the area, but no other property had everything that we needed,” Morgan said. “It was Madison that came up with it and we think it’s the best place for us to take it to the next level.”

Morgan said Sci-Quest will continue to offer the same programs, and will also expand to include more activities for the entire family.

“What we want to do is mold Sci-Quest into the type of place that when a tourist comes in, they say that’s what the Huntsville-metro area is all about.”

Also in attendance Friday was Madison City Schools superintendent Dr. Dee Fowler, who spoke about the benefits the new location could have on the city’s schools.

“Overnight, we’ve got a science center in our town. How exciting can that be?” Fowler exclaimed. “We saw this as a wonderful opportunity for kindergarten through 12th grade to use resources of Sci-Quest and hopefully Sci-Quest would want to use our resources. We’re very exciting about them coming.”
