Yards of Madison owners named for July and August

July and August brought brutal heat to North Alabama, but the weather didn’t thwart Madison homeowners from maintaining showplace landscapes with Yards of Madison.

Madison Beautification and Tree Board started the Yards of Madison program to recognize any exceptional yard within the city limits that enhances the overall appearance and beauty of a neighborhood or other areas in Madison.

Madison residents and homeowner associations can nominate a property. The beautification board then presents certificates signed by Mayor Paul Finley and the board president to the gardeners for their hard work. No judging is involved. The board accepts nominations from May through October.

For July, Yards of Madison honorees were Clyde and Ruthie Shields, The Harris Family, The Price Family, Johnny and Helen McAlpine, Thomas and Beverly Perry, Charles and Connie Metoyer, Bill and Linda Kinney, Malcolm and Alberta Fuller, The Vannoy Family, Michael and Donna Patterson, The Farrell Family, Marshall and Stacy Grenier, The Bergstresser Family, The Bias Family, The Holden Family and Clay Walker.

In August, properties were selected belonging to Wayne and Brenda Tackett, The Casey Family, Randy and Janet Herd, Ricky and Joyce Haze, Elliott and Sharron Abernethy, Charlie and Lou Justice, Don and Shirley Butler, Mike and Sharon Jordan, Jack and Pat Lehner, Larry and Julie Burkman and Tom and Valerie McLaughlin.

These property owners are listed on Facebook.

Beautification board officers for 2012 are president Liz Cuneo; vice president for tree board Carol Umstaedter; vice president for beautification Chad Hunter; secretary Julie Ray; and treasurer Sue Bish.

The City of Madison Beautification and Tree Board was established on October 28, 2002. The board acts in an advisory capacity to the mayor and city council. The group’s purpose is to enhance the quality of life in Madison through beautification and environmentally friendly practices.
