Bob Jones homecoming to feature Hall of Fame inductees

Inductees in the 2012 Hall of Fame at Bob Jones High School will be announced during homecoming week.

At homecoming, the Bob Jones Patriots will compete against the Huntsville High School Panthers on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. in Madison City Schools Stadium.

“Each year, deserving students, former faculty members and community volunteers are nominated and some elected into the Bob Jones Hall of Fame,” principal Robby Parker said. “It is a great honor.”

“Elected Hall of Fame members will be grand marshals in the homecoming parade. After the parade, they will have a reception and will be honored at halftime of the homecoming game,” Parker said.

In addition, the honoree’s photographs and biographical sketches will be exhibited in the newly renovated case for the hall of fame in the Zompa Auditorium lobby.

Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding alumni who have maintained a high standard of excellence and made a significant contribution in their fields of endeavor.

In addition, individuals who did not attend Bob Jones are eligible. “They must have made a significant contribution to Bob Jones in the form of leadership or service,” Parker said. “These individuals serve as role models for current and future Bob Jones students.”

Alumni candidates must have graduated at least 10 years ago. While a student, the individual must have excelled in scholarship, service, leadership or athletics. The nominees’ college degrees, fields of study and leadership roles will be considered.

The inductee’s professional background must involve civic contributions and community involvement, along with awards, honors and various offices in organizations.

Current employees of Bob Jones are not eligible. Former employees must have worked for the school for 10 years minimum, or be retired, deceased or not employed for 10 years minimum.

Jeanne Welt, assistant principal at Bob Jones, coordinated the nomination process. Nomination applications included a 200-word essay or letter of recommendation for the candidate.

Nominees who aren’t inducted automatically are placed in the nominee list for the following year.
