Statewide amendment election results

Update (9:15): The election has been called with the amendment being approved by the state. Madison County voted against approving the amendment.

Governor Robert Bentley said in a statement, “I want to thank the voters for approving the state’s plan to temporarily borrow funds from our savings account to help get us through these difficult economic times without raising taxes.  Once again, I pledge to the people of this state that the funds transferred to help support critical state services will be paid back.”

Results are being calculated for the special constitutional amendment election.

Voters have cast their ballots on whether to transfer roughly $437 million from the Alabama Trust Fund to the General Fund over three years. A vote of yes if for the transfer. A vote of no is against the transfer.

Yes: 144; 57.83 percent

No: 105; 42.17 percent
