It’s homecoming week at ‘The Bob’

Homecoming 2012 festivities are underway for Bob Jones High School students, alumni and the community.

Bob Jones will play Huntsville High for homecoming on Sept. 28.

Bob Jones Patriots will battle the Huntsville High School Panthers on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at Madison City Schools Stadium.

Special activities will raise spirit all week at Bob Jones. “Each day, students will have ‘Spirit Dress-Up Days,'” co-sponsor and art teacher Robin Lakso said. “The school will be decorated by the Student Government Association and feature themes for the homecoming game against the Panthers.”

On Sept. 24, classes dressed by decades for the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. “Zombie Apocalypse” is the horrific theme for Sept. 25. For “Salad Dressing,” seniors will dress as Caesar, juniors as Italians, sophomores as 1,000 Island and freshmen as Ranch. “Hunt the Panther” will be the dress code for Sept. 27 and “Glow” for Sept. 28.

Teachers and students are competing in the “Slam the Door on the Panthers” contest for the classroom door with the best spirit.

The Patriots homecoming parade, dubbed “Hunt the Panthers,” will step off at 5:30 p.m. on Sept. 27 at Portal Lane and proceed north on Hughes Road to campus. Hughes Road will be closed to traffic from about 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Bob Jones Marching Patriots Band and the Air Force JROTC will lead the parade entries. Class maids on the homecoming court will follow, along with 10 candidates for Homecoming King.

The parade will continue with Bob Jones administrators, Madison Board of Education, Central Office staff and Mayor Paul Finley. “Clubs and organizations from Bob Jones, Discovery Middle School and even the West Madison Elementary School Juggling Team will be in the parade,” Lakso said.

Each Bob Jones class will present a float with the “Hunt the Panthers” theme. “The cheerleaders will end the parade on the fire truck from Madison Fire and Rescue Department,” Lakso said. “Clubs and organizations from Bob Jones will be walking, riding and, of course, throwing candy for the kids.”

Grand marshals for the parade will be 2012 inductees to the Bob Jones Hall of Fame: Tamara Jackson Candis, Steve Haraway, Patrick Jacklin, Candace Storey Lee and Dr. Jason Parker.

Before the game, Class of 1992 alumni will gather for a reunion time at the VIP tent and then sit together in the stands.

The 2012 Homecoming Court will be presented at halftime. 2011 Queen, Taylor Dahlgren, will crown her successor.

The week’s fun will end with the homecoming dance on Sept. 29 from 8 to 11 p.m. in the Bob Jones gym.

Along with Lakso, sponsors are Brandy Van Dam, seniors; Kristine Roberts, juniors; Jennifer Voorhies, sophomores and homecoming court; Michelle Cleveland, freshmen; and Belinda Sewell, dance.
