Hudson earns Eagle Scout rank with Mill Creek work

Noah Hudson earned his Eagle Scout rank with an improvement project on the campus of Mill Creek Elementary School.

For his service project, Hudson built six scarecrow posts and several birdhouses and added edging to the stone pathway at Mill Creek’s Giving Garden.

Mill Creek used a $2,900 Toolbox for Education grant from Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation to build the Giving Garden. Students will use the raised beds to grow pumpkins and produce and then donate funds to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

For his supplies, Hudson used wood and edging that surrounded the pathway.

“I’m thankful for my parents pushing me all this time” to become an Eagle Scout, Hudson said. In Scouting, he enjoyed camping, hiking and whitewater rafting. “Then I realized I had almost all the requirements and learned it could be helpful in attaining scholarships.”

Helping with his project were fellow Scouts Christopher Kegley, Solomon Ortega, Patrick Shockley, Thomas Griffin, Alex Lantigua, Ben Tippie, Cameron Highsmith, Nathan Hudson and Levi Hudson. Noah is in Troop 83 with troop leader Scott Motz.

Adults who helped included Sam Ortega, Jeff Kegley, Rob Griffin and his parents, Lincoln and Aprle Hudson.

“I have received nothing but positive feedback” about the project, Hudson said. “They have all thanked me and complimented me on the work. I think the scarecrows were a favorite.”

“My dad’s job moved us from Fredericksburg, Va. to Madison, where I started kindergarten at Heritage Elementary School,” he said. Hudson now is a freshman at James Clemens High School.

“My dad Lincoln Hudson is a business area manager at Northrop Grumman, while my mom Aprle Hudson takes care of me and my four younger siblings,” Noah said. His sister Isabelle, 13, attends Liberty Middle School. Brothers Nathan, 11, and Levi, 9, and sister Leah, 7, attend Heritage.

Hudson works in technical theatre at James Clemens. “I am a big Aerosmith, AC/DC and Guns N Roses fan,” he said.

The Hudson family attends Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church.
