Discovery RUFF to use rummage proceeds for party at Triana

A Christmas party at Triana Boys & Girls Club will be funded by the upcoming rummage sale coordinated by the RUFF organization (Ready yoUrself For the Future Leader) at Discovery Middle School.

The “Christmas for the Boys and Girls Club in Triana Rummage Sale” will be held on Dec. 1 in the Discovery cafeteria from 6 to 11 a.m.

Anyone can donate items on Nov. 28-30 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We are accepting anything from furniture to clothing items. The more items we receive the better. We need as much stuff as possible to make our goal of $1,500,” RUFF founder and sponsor Anthony Graham said.

Then, Discovery and Triana youth will ‘party down’ on Dec. 7 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Triana club, located at 280 Zierdt Road.

At the party, the youth will enjoy a lasagna dinner with salad and bread. Cost is $5 per plate. “Santa Claus will be there and we’ll have lots of holiday music,” Graham said. One of the RUFF boys will spin record as deejay.

RUFF will purchase Christmas gifts for 35 boys and girls in Triana. Most of the youth attend Discovery and Columbia Elementary School.

This summer, Graham volunteered some time at the Triana club and met its directors and boys and girls. “There is just a major need out there to help out and give back,” he said.

From their volunteering, the RUFF boys realize that some children in Madison won’t have a surplus of food or gifts at Christmas. “Our boys are very aware of the needs in our community,” Graham said. “They are working extremely hard to help out in those areas.”

Triana Boys & Girls Club is affiliated with Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama. The club provides a safe, recreational center for the children to finish their homework or for teenagers to research for college applications or plan a community service project. Club members run, jump, laugh, have fun and improve their health.
