Brasseale, Eaton and Nash qualify for All-State Jazz Band

Richard Brasseale, James Eaton and Brenton Nash aced their auditions to earn a seat in the Alabama All-State Jazz Band.

These young men are members of the Bob Jones High School Band.

The all-state jazz musicians will rehearse and perform in conjunction with the 2013 Alabama Music Educators Conference at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel and Convention Center on Jan. 10-12.

Clinicians will be Dr. Andy Nevala, gold band, Jacksonville State University; Dr. Joe Ardovino, silver band, University of Montevallo; and Brian Bankston, Junior High All-State Band, Gadsden High School.

Eaton, a junior, plays drums in the Bob Jones Patriots Marching Band and the Indoor Drumline. In 2012, he earned the National Award of Excellence with National PTA Reflections, a program that identifies superior work in the fine arts. Eaton first won at Bob Jones and then the Madison district and state levels before advancing to the national competition.

James Eaton

Eaton was one of only 12 students nationwide to win the Award of Excellence for music composition.

A trumpet player, Brasseale portrayed Nicely-Nicely in Bob Jones Musical Theatre’s production of “Guys & Dolls” and in Lyrique Music Productions’ version on “Annie.” He earned a seat in the District Honor Band in 2011 and has participated in Destination Imagination.

Brasseale and Nash have appeared in several productions of Bob Jones Musical Theatre. In the Bob Jones spring musical, “Godspell,” Brasseale will portray Jesus and Nash has been cast as a disciple.

In other mutual honors, Brasseale and Nash performed with the Great All-American Marching Band in the 2012 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. They both have been state finalists in the Walter J. Trumbauer Drama Festival.

Brenton Nash

Nash has served as drum major of the Bob Jones Patriot Band for two years. A trombonist, he toured in China with Madison Jazz. Nash has won numerous, prestigious awards for his musical ability and has attended by-audition clinics, workshops and camps.

Their band director at Bob Jones is Doyle Thornton, and Leigh Thomas is assistant band director.
