St. John’s Gala gets all shook up with Elvis

“All Shook Up – An Evening with Elvis!” will open with Michael Chambliss previewing his Elvis tribute in the Von Braun Center’s North Hall on Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. Silent auction viewing opens at 5:30 p.m.

“Utilizing Elvis Presley has been a dream theme for the St. John’s Gala creative director Matt Smith for many years,” Tania Yee said. She and Betsy Lashley are gala co-chairpersons.

Dinner includes choice of chicken with fontina cheese and ham, top sirloin or vegetarian tart with garlic potatoes, asparagus salad, cheesecake and double-chocolate cake, along with domestic and craft beers and wine.

The year’s only fundraiser, the gala also “builds fellowship within our school, parish and the community. Many parents bring their unique gifts and talents,” Yee said.

Professional dealers in the casino area will host blackjack, poker, craps, roulette and money wheel.

St. John’s families and local businesses donate goods for the silent and live auctions. Guests can bid on theme baskets, annual passes to Monaco Pictures, landscaping, Hogan Family YMCA memberships, an autographed Nick Saban football, among other items. Online bidding on some items is new for 2013.

Chambliss has performed in Branson, Mo., Pigeon Forge, Tenn. and the Grand Ole Opry. Disc jockey Jazzy Greg Thompson will spin dance music.

The gala concludes at 10:15 p.m. with the $10,000 grand prize drawing.

Proceeds will fund programs, technology and equipment at St. John the Baptist Catholic School.

Premium sponsorship includes slide show and program recognition, table for eight, four raffle and casino tickets each. Casino sponsorship secures a large or small playing table, slide show, program and logo display. General sponsorships offset gala costs.

Premium sponsors are Johnson Partners, First Commercial Bank, Sign*A*Rama, Aegis and Redstone Federal Credit Union. Casino sponsors are Providence Family Dental, Madison Surgical Associates, Chris P. Designs, The Brickhouse, Eagle Rehab, Eye Care Associates, Soho Nails and Wattson & Graffeo. St. John’s families are sponsoring both.

Tickets are $140 per couple, $75 individually. Raffle tickets are $50.
