Austin prevails over James Clemens girls

Decatur- Austin won the Area 16 tournament on their home court Monday night, Feb 11 by beating James Clemens by a score of 54-39.

The game was close for about two minutes before James Clemens began to self-destruct by committing 9 turnovers in the first period. The Jets also allowed three  3-point shots by Austin senior forward Meagan Hamilton and fell behind 16-4 after the first quarter.

Austin extended their lead to 30-15 by halftime and led by a double digit margin for the rest of the game.

Austin finished the game with 4 of their starters scoring in double figures, led by senior point guard Takisha Jordan, with 14 points.

Sophomore forward Kailey Beckett led James Clemens with 13 points, and completed a double-double by pulling down 10 rebounds.

Austinwill host the Bob Jones Patriots Thursday night for the rights to advance to the Northwest Regional at Wallace State.

James Clemens now must travel to Sparkman on Thursday night to take on the Class 6A, top ranked Lady Senators. The winner will also advance to the Northwest Regional.

Sparkman has announced that the start time for the game Thursday night will be 6 p.m.
