MADISON – Three Madison schools showed their mental breadth at the North Alabama Regional Tournament for Destination Imagination (DI).

Students from Bob Jones high, Discovery middle and Rainbow elementary schools entered the meet, hosted by Bob Jones on March 2. Bob Jones and Discovery squads placed in the top three, qualifying them to compete at the state DI tournament in April at the University of Alabama in Huntsville.

Bob Jones’ “Wind Visible” team earned first place for scientific challenge. Members are Bobbie Hoskins, Rebecca Passer, Maura Smith, Mimi Thaicum and Crystal Kleinjung. Also first-place winners, team “Change in RealiTee” for improvisational drama included Olivia Skillern, Nathan Daniel, Richard Brasseale, Sarah Skillern, Sarah Schumacher, Lindsey Martin and Shannon Walker.

Both grabbing second place, other Bob Jones teams were “In DIsguise,” classical drama, Allison Bailey, Kat Cox, Yvonne Bowman, Sarah Combs, Harper Pannell and Kenji Tyler; and “Real to Reel,” community service, Alma Atassi, Emily Bohatch, Gabi Daso, Sami Foster, Lane Mathews, Robin Newman and Nisha Patel.

Three Discovery teams captured first place. “In DIsguise” in classical drama included Samantha Bailey, Lili Bowerman, Jasmine Atassi, Carsen Grant, Mindy Foster, Elizabeth Yerby and Hayden Morrell.

Competing in scientific challenge in “Wind Visible” were Lauren McDaniel, Megan Lamps, Jenny Baldwin, Laura Weber, Anya Smith. “In the Zone” for technical vehicle included Turner Dauma, Alec Dauma, Elijah Johnson, Emmanuel Johnson, Nicholas Nave, Nihar Patel and John Schumacher.

Robin Dauma sponsors Bob Jones and Discovery teams. Dana Chambers coaches at Rainbow.

Rainbow’s “DIdeas” team competed in the “Change in Real-tee” category against nine teams. Squad members were Aaliyah Coe, Quinlyn Scully, Ian Finney, Andrew Holland, Dana Chambers, John David Anderson, Slater Moore and Lauren Chambers.

“Each year, as DI continues to gain momentum, we can finally see a category with more than three teams participating,” teacher Monique Haselden said. “Our team presented a great performance. We’re so proud of their hard work and creativity. Most importantly, they worked well together and had a tremendous amount of fun.”
