CAFY 2013 set for August, seeking donors

HUNTSVILLE — Huntsville Police spokesman Harry Hobbs announced plans for the Community Awareness for Youth (CAFY).
The event is scheduled to be on August 17 at the Jaycees Building & Fairgrounds on Airport Rd. in Huntsville.
“My wife Erica will coordinate floor and booth space inside and outside at the Jaycees Building & Fairgrounds for me again as in previous years,” he said. “I want to thank my CAFY team again for staying on board with me also.”
The event will promote youth across Huntsville, Madison and all of Madison County to join organizations that positively impact the community.
“We also hope this event will be a one stop shopping opportunity for parents that want their children to sign up for great programs like Boy Scouts, Boys and Girls clubs, 100 Black Men of Greater Huntsville Chapter, Girls Scouts, U.S. Army, church groups of all denominations and the YMCA.”
Hobbs said that he has been in contact with Madison City Schools, Huntsville City Schools and Madison County Schools to help promote the event so that it may build a better future of community leaders.
Hobbs said he is currently seeking donations for the event, big or small. and those wishing to donate can mail a check directly to him at; Dr. Harry Hobbs, 815 Wheeler Ave. Huntsville, Al, 35801.
The event will be completely free to the public and Hobbs said that they are expecting to see record numbers this year.
“The first year of the CAFY event we had over 1,000 attendees and last year we had over 2,500 attendees,” he said. “We expect over 3,000 this year.”
Hobbs referred to the mission of the event for the reason why it is put together every year.
“Our vision of building bridges in our community towards having one city, with one vision of success for all; especially our youth.”
