MADISON — The local agency that assists individuals with cerebral palsy has announced two outdoor events.

“Our non-profit organization has two centers in Huntsville that serve individuals of all ages and abilities,” Tracy Cieniewicz said. Cieniewicz works as fundraising director at United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) of Huntsville and Tennessee Valley Inc.

UCP Huntsville will hold its 50th anniversary reunion on May 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Brahan Spring Park in the “Everybody Can Play” playground and pavilion.

All past and present UCP clients and their families, volunteers, board members, staff, community partners, telethon participants and community residents are welcome and invited to attend.

“We will enjoy free food, entertainment, children’s activities and fellowship as guests reconnect with each other” and the local UCP organization, Cieniewicz said. “We have many community events throughout the year.”

In early summer to benefit UCP Huntsville, the North Alabama Boaters Association will present the 2013 River Poker Run on June 15 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The starting points for the poker run will be in Huntsville at Ditto Landing, Decatur and Guntersville.

“Card turn-in will be at Ditto Landing from 4 to 5:30 p.m.,” Cieniewicz said. “The awards banquet will be held at the Kingston Pavilion at Ditto Landing from 6 to 9 p.m. Participants may buy as many poker hands as desired for $25 per hand.”

Throughout the day at Ditto Landing, guests will enjoy family fun with food and beverage vendors, arts and crafts artisans, free children’s activities and entertainment.

UCP Huntsville assists in evaluations, training, workshops and respite services not only for individuals with cerebral palsy but also those who represent 156 additional diagnoses. The center supports their families and the professionals who work alongside them in North Alabama through health, education and social services, Cieniewicz said.

The centers are located at 2075 Max Luther Drive NW and 1856 Keats Drive NW in Huntsville. For more information, call 256-859-4900 or visit ucphuntsville.org.
