Sex offender arrested for failing to register in Madison

MADISON — An out-of-state registered sex offender was arrested on April 11 for failing to comply with the rules of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA).

Larry Demenrick Globe of Detroit, MI was arrested and booked into the Madison County Jail without bond. Globe, 30, was convicted in Michigan in 2003 for criminal sexual assault with intent to commit sexual penetration. Globe is a Tier III offender meaning he is on the registry for life and requires quarterly verification.

“Mr. Globe failed to register and state he was living in a prohibited residence,” Madison Police Lt. Terrell Cook said. “If you’re a convicted sex offender, you have to register through us if you are living in the city of Madison. It  all depends on where they live and they basically have to come in every month and check in. So it is kind of like being on probation.”

Cook said it can sometimes be tedious keeping up with sex offender laws but they have everything under control at the Madison Police Department.

“It can get hectic at some points,” he said. “But we do have one detective devoted to monitoring sex offenders because that is one thing you don’t want to go unchecked in your area.”

Currently there are eight registered sex offenders in the City of Madison.

“There is not too many places where a public sex offender can live here because we have so many schools, private daycare’s and church daycare’s,” he said. “In order to live anywhere in the city, sex offenders have be at least 2000 ft. away from a school or childcare facility.”

Cook said that is why Madison is such a great place to live.

“Offenders have limited options on where to move here in Madison,” he said. “That is what makes us a great city.”
