REDSTONE ARSENAL — Cadets from  Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps  (JROTC) programs across Madison County will gain valuable training on Tuesday.

It will be the first time in two years the Redstone Arsenal has hosted the event. High schools like Hazel Green, Austin, Bob Jones, Johnson and Athens will all take part in the informational event.
“The cadets will look at a number of displays,” Public Affairs specialist Megan Cotton said. “They will travel through different stations. The 2nd Recruiting Brigade, Missile and Space office and seven different stations will be there so the cadets can rotate throughout the morning and talk to the various representatives.”

The event is key for building relationships with those who defend the country in various ways.

“JROTC Day’s mission is to foster and mentor the JROTC Cadets into being productive citizens in their communities,” Terri Stover with Public Affairs said. “And to teach the cadets the importance of our people, mission, equipment and facilities in supporting the soldier.”

The United States Army JROTC will be celebrating its 97th anniversary this year as it continues to “promote the study of ethics, citizenship, communications, leadership, life skills and other subjects designed to prepare young men and woman to take their place in adult society, evolved as the core of the program.”

LTG McQuistion, Army Materiel Command, will make the welcoming remarks to the cadets at 8:00 a.m. at the  MWR Activity Field, Redstone Arsenal. The morning event runs until 11:30 a.m.

For more information, call the Redstone Public Affairs office at call 256-876-4161.
