MADISON — Madison residents are preparing relief packages for storm victims in the wake of the massive F-5 tornado that ripped through a 17 mile stretch of Oklahoma.
A drop-site at Old Time Pottery at 9076 Madison Blvd. is scheduled to be set up on May 24 to help collect items for the victims of the deadly tornado that hit the Oklahoma City and Moore areas in Oklahoma.
“Toomer’s for Tuscaloosa will be collecting supplies from groups all over Alabama and sending an 18-wheeler to Journey Church in Norman that will leave on Saturday around noon,” Connie Campbell said. “Journey Church is feeding thousands per day and diligently working on relief efforts to help their community in and around Moore.”
Campbell said most residents know first hand the devastation a tornado can leave behind.
“Alabamians all to well know what the residents of Oklahoma are facing,” she said. “From Madison to Eclectic, our entire state felt the devastation of April 27, 2011 and then again in 2012. It is our opportunity to give back.”
There are a number of items needed for the drive. Baby items needed include baby powder, baby Tylenol, bottles, car seats, clothes, diaper rash cream, lotion, Pedialyte and spoons. Non-perishable food and cooking items needed include canned foods, charcoal, diabetic foods, Gatorade mix, snack foods and soft drinks.
