HUNTSVILLE — The trial dates for the parents of Discovery Middle School shooter Hammad Memon have been set.

Iqbal and Safia Memon are both charged with trying to help their son flee the country before he went to trial. Iqbal Memon is scheduled to go on trial on Aug. 5 while his wife will be arraigned on Aug. 16 for hindering prosecution.

Both of the Memons were arrested in Dallas in April of last year with brand new Pakistani passports and a considerable amount of cash. Madison Police said they were tipped off about the passports before issuing arrest warrants.

Hammad Memon pleaded guilty on May 28 in the Feb. 2010 murder of 14-year-old Todd Brown at Discovery. Memon was sentenced to 30 years in prison with the eligibility of parole in 15 years.

Brown’s parents said they had hoped the 17-year-old received life in prison. In Alabama, hindering prosecution in the second degree is a Class A misdemeanor.
