Luncheon at The Summit to honor Korean War veterans

HUNTSVILLE – The Legacy 4 Korean War Veterans Foundation is sponsoring its seventh annual luncheon to honor Korean War veterans and relatives of deceased veterans.

The luncheon will be held on June 25 at The Summit on Redstone Arsenal. Guests will enjoy social time from 10:30 to 11 a.m., followed by lunch and the recognition ceremony until 1 p.m.

The guest speaker will be Lt. Gen. Richard P. Formica, who serves as Commanding General of the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command and Army Forces Strategic Command.

Suitable attire for the foundation luncheon will be military duty uniform and civilian business casual. The event is free to Korean War veterans. For other individuals, the cost is $20 per person.

Guests should respond by June 19 to K.C. Bertling by calling 256-541-0450. Guests are requested to bring their photos and other memorabilia from the Korean War “and share your story with other veterans,” Bertling said.

For more luncheon information, email to samnkc@knology.net.

Legacy 4 Korean War Veterans Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization and was established in January 2011 in honor of Korean War Veterans.

K.C. Bertling is foundation president and founder. Her husband Sam Bertling volunteers as the foundation’s financial advisor.

Among its activities last year, the foundation sponsored “Revisit Korea,” a weeklong, expense-paid visit to South Korea for nine veterans of the Korean War. The veterans returned to Korea for the first time since the armistice signing in 1953.

The Bertlings relocated to Madison in May 2005 with Sam’s new position with the U.S. Army. They live in the Franklin Station neighborhood in Madison.

Sam and K.C. Bertling both volunteer with other veterans organizations, Survival Outreach Services and Tragedy Assistance Program and Redstone Community Women’s Club. Sam serves as chairman of the board at Master’s Way United Methodist Church.
