Alabama Titans win ‘High School Challenge’

MADISON – A baseball club based in Madison and Limestone counties captured the “High School Challenge” bragging rights.

The Alabama Titans club won the challenge tournament, held on June 15-16 at James Clemens High School. The tourney involved teams with players who are 15 years old and younger (15U).

“The team is comprised of five players from Bob Jones High School, two from Hazel Green High School, three from James Clemens and one from Elkmont High School,” coach and team parent Jamie Hill. Hill works as coordinator of special education for Madison City Schools.

“The Titans went 4-0, scoring 29 runs while allowing just 9 through 4 games, winning the championship over G-Force out of Birmingham/Gardendale with a score of 5-4,” Hill said. The Titans’ average runs were 7.25, average allowed at 2.25, average difference in at 5 and maximum runs at 11.

Trevor Sharp scored a homerun.

The team roster for the Alabama Titans includes Cole Hill (2), Isaiah Walker (34), Luke Whaley (15), Jackson Rumley (16) and Zach Duvall (24) from Bob Jones; Hill McCrory (26), Heath Burchfield (47) and Zach Williams (3-23) from James Clemens; Trevor Sharp (25) and Chris Gothard (1) from Hazel Green; and Jordan Nelson (3) from Elkmont.

Burchfield has also played for the North Alabama Storm, Madison Sluggers and North Alabama Giants. Duvall’s credits include the Madison Patriots, North Alabama Mustangs, Storm and Giants. Gothard’s experience includes the HG Shockerz, Hazel Green Trojans and Patriots.

For McCrory, affiliations are the Bombers Baseball, Southeast Extreme Baseball, Warehouse Performance, Prattville Lions and Prattville Predators. Jordan Nelson has played for the Madison Swampdogs, Madison Sluggers, Madison Tide, Alabama Stars and Storm. Sharp’s credits include the Rawlings Junior Prospects, Patriots and Shockerz.

Walker played ball with the Madison Blaze, Madison Heat, Sluggers, Patriots and Trojans. Whaley’s experience includes Vipers Baseball, Heat, Patriots and Storm. Williams also played for the Giants.

The Alabama Titans’ current record this spring/summer is 12-4 overall.
