MADISON  — A new stand in Madison is helping residents stay cool over the hot summer months.

Tropical Sno Huntsville LLC. snow cone stand in the parking lot of the Star Market Shopping Center  opened around two weeks ago and business is booming already.

“I would say our busiest times are from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.,” employee Jarrett Kirkwood said. “We are open till 9 p.m. so sometimes it is busy from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. It really fluctuates.”

The stand includes popular favorites like green apple, blue raspberry and mango flavored syrups. Each cone is handcrafted out of real shaved ice.

“I think what makes our snow cones so great is that we use real shaved ice,” Kirkwood said. “Some places used prepackaged ice and don’t shave it on location. We mold ours here and make sure each cone is perfect for the customer.”

Kirkwood said around 300 snow cones are sold each day and with schools out for summer, most of the customers are children and teens.
“I’d say mostly kids and teenagers,” Kirkwood said. “We get a lot of groups from kids getting off extended day, camps and activities. We had a group of 8 kids from a dance studio come by and order. So it varies but we stay busy.”

Tropical Sno Huntsville is located at 7950 Highway 72 West in the Star Market parking lot and open from 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. every day. For more information, call 256-763-0808.
