2026 UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships Sets Record

The Union Cycliste International (UCI) Para-cycling Road World Championships is making history this fall as only the second time the event has been held in the United States, and it is coming right here to Huntsville’s Cummings Research Park.

The 2026 Para-cycling Road World Championships is also making history as the largest event held in a non-European city.

Currently, 388 athletes from 49 countries are registered to participate in the event. Athletes will be coming from Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, China, India, Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and more.

“We are thrilled to see the interest from so many international teams as they prepare to come to the Rocket City,” said Todd Fraser, UCI’s Para Cycling Manager. “Huntsville set the bar high with the round of the UCI Para-cycling Road World Cup they hosted in 2023, and we look forward to a fantastic four days of racing next month with the world’s best in the sport.”

The World Championships attracts top athletes and contributes to qualification for the 2028 Paralympic Games in Los Angeles.

“These athletes are the best of the best in para cycling,” said Erin Koshut, Executive Director of Cummings Research Park. “Many are Paralympians who won medals in Tokyo and Paris and are now setting their sights on LA ’28. Team USA will be here as well! They will be staying in our local hotels, eating in restaurants and we encourage you to say hello and welcome them. They are friendly and love the Rocket City and our Southern hospitality.”

Locals are invited to participate in the historic event as volunteers. Event organizers are looking for course marshals to help keep the race course clear and safe for athletes. Locals are also encouraged to participate as spectators.

The World Championships will be held Labor Day weekend, September 4-7. Time trails will be held September 4 and 5 with races on September 6 and 7.
