MADISON – Craftspeople with their handmade merchandise will assemble at the first annual Summer Arts and Crafts Fair at Dublin Park, 8324 Old Madison Pike on Aug. 10.

The city’s parks and recreation department is hosting the fair. “We enjoyed doing the spring event, which turned out well,” Gayle Milam said. “After speaking with several of our vendors, they requested that we hold a show in August. We decided that we would find a date and help them out.”

“I wish I had half the talent and creativity that these individuals have,” Milam said. She works as the city’s event and volunteer coordinator.

The indoor event will run from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Dublin gym.

The fair has been organized only for crafters “that make their products by hand. We’re asking that they only sell these type products,” Milam said. “This event is not open to direct sellers.”

To-date, several categories of vendors have registered:

* Jewelry — Wooden jewelry, Wood Be Jewels, also a Madison Street Festival vendor; beaded pieces, Suzanne’s Handmade Jewelry; unique jewelry, tooth fairy pillows, quilted sleep mask and jewelry/make-up bags, Wendy Quails and Hallie Kenny.

* Children’s items — Hand-knitted clothing, Susan Dodson; hair bows and tutus, Bows by Sara; doll and baby clothing and purses, Brenda Mitchell; rag dolls and clothing, Tracie’s Treasures.

* Accessories — Deco, burlap and grapevine wreaths, soft-sculpture dolls, wood hangers, Southern Frills and Thrills; soap, lotions, lip balm and candles, Laughing Bird Farm; functional and decorative pottery, Becky McBrayer; paper crafts and crosses, Handmade Goods By Shatze.

* Miscellaneous — Clothing, toys, wall hangings and plaques, Regina; soothing microwavable hot/cold wrap, Cheryl’s Body Buddy; knitted ruffle scarves, Kimmy’s Krafts.

Milam expects people of all ages will enjoy the craft show. “My five-year-old grandson came to the spring show and made it a ‘point’ to visit every booth. Of course, he wanted to get something from everyone,” she said.
