MADISON – Fingers will be snapping and toes tapping when Tina Shelton and Wilhite Station Band perform at Madison Senior Center.

Center members will enjoy the free concert on Aug. 21 at noon.

Vickie Parker, interim director at Madison Senior Center, said Shelton visited the center and offered to perform. “I didn’t realize that Tina and her band were so well known until I went to her website, tinashelton.webs.com, and read about them,” Parker said. “We are honored to have someone with such talent and a well-known following at the center.”

The concert marks the first time that a band “with Nashville connections” has performed at the center, she said.

Center member Margie Young is excited about the performance by Tina Shelton and Wilhite Station Band. “Margie has followed Tina and her band as they have played at various dance venues in this area,” Parker said.

The band will play classic country, 1950s rock and some contemporary country tunes. “Your Cheating Heart,” “Watermelon Crawl” and “Walking After Midnight” are a few of their popular charts.

“We invite everyone of all ages to put your dancing shoes and come hear Tina and her band for this fun-filled event,” Parker said.

Shelton grew up in a family of musicians. As she listened to her father play guitar, Shelton learned about traditional country music from him. She started playing guitar and then fiddle and soon was performing across North Alabama and Tennessee.

In 2001, Shelton organized the Wilhite Station Band, and they quickly had guest performances at the Nashville Palace. Those gigs led to appearances with The General Jackson Boys on WSM radio and CMT network. Shelton has appeared with The Osborne Brothers on WSM’s “Midnight Jamboree” and at The Nashville Nightlife with Tommie Cash.

Band members are Dean Shelton, acoustic guitar; Jeff Smith, lead; Mark Smith, drums; and Don Minor, bass.

Madison Senior Center is located at 1282 Hughes Road. For more information, call 256-772-6256, email to vickie.parker@madisonal.gov or visit madisonal.gov/index.aspx?nid=235.
