MADISON – The grandeur of Creekside Plantation’s antebellum mansion and grounds will give the backdrop for the P.E.O. Ladies Tea and Fashion Show.

The P.E.O (Philanthropic Education Organization) fundraiser will be held on Aug. 25 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Creekside Plantation, 28500 North Street in Mooresville.

Guests will enjoy tea sandwiches of pimento cheese and cucumber, fruited chicken filo cup, homemade mint tea and lemonade and Southern dessert favorites like carrot, lemon-filled and strawberry cupcakes, chess squares and spritz cookies, publicist Holly Carpenter said.

Models will present children’s clothing from SheaLeigh’s Boutique in Athens; teen, collegiate and young professional women’s wear from 202 Couture and Silhouette’s in Huntsville; and ladies clothing from Cricket by the Creek in Decatur.

“Wear your favorite hat!” Carpenter said.

“Creekside Plantation is a lovely setting and a perfect place for attendees to enjoy the tranquility and peace of a country setting, just a short distance from home,” Carpenter said. “Creekside, a 170-year-old estate, has a lovely pavilion bordered by gardens and vineyards with grapes heavy on the vine ready for the September crush.” The event will be held rain or shine.

Silent auction bidders can browse clothing and accessories from the fashion vendors and photography packages for family, engagement, wedding or individual views. P.E.O.’s latest cookbook will be sold.

Event proceeds will support P.E.O. philanthropies. “Chapter Z provides educational opportunities for women by offering scholarships, grants, awards and loans to enhance their lives through learning,” Carpenter said.

Founded in 1869 in Iowa, the P.E.O. Sisterhood has approximately 6,000 local chapters in the United States and Canada with about 240,000 active members. Chapter Z was organized in Huntsville in 1992. North Alabama has eight P.E.O. chapters, with 37 throughout Alabama.

In 1961, the P.E.O. Foundation was established as a 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation to encourage tax-deductible giving to charitable projects of the P.E.O. Sisterhood.

Tickets are $20. The event is open to the public. For tickets, call 256-479-1429. For information, visit creeksideatcolliersend.com/tea.pdf.
