MADISON – Kareem Belhadj and Emily Wittig from James Clemens High School were chosen to attend Alabama Governor’s School.

Delegates met for 12 days at Samford University in June. Samford, the State of Alabama and private benefactors fund the honors program. Founded in 1987, the Alabama program follows the pattern of schools in North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Georgia, Mississippi and Kentucky.

All delegates have stellar academic records and have shown creative potential. The teenagers, all entering their senior year of high school, receive academic, creative and leadership experiences at Alabama Governor’s School.

Students could choose seminars covering topics such as healthcare, research science, business, engineering, law, magazine writing, web design, North Alabama ecosystems and cinematography. They also participated in a service project at Woodlawn United foundation.
