University reps to assist at James Clemens College Fair

MADISON – Students planning to enter college or other post-secondary study can learn what schools have to offer at the James Clemens High School College Fair.

The Jets’ second annual college fair is scheduled for Sept. 24 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria, Lana Meskunas said. Meskunas works as counselor for the senior class. Rosalyn Smith is counselor for the juniors.

In-state institutions that are popular choices among students are the University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama A&M University in Normal, Auburn University in Auburn, University of Alabama campuses in Tuscaloosa and Huntsville and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

To-date, out-of-state schools that will have representatives at the fair will include Hendrix College in Conway, Ark.; Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss.; Mississippi State University in Starkville; Sewanee – The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn.; Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg, Va.; University of Mississippi in Oxford; and Washington University in Saint Louis, Mo.

Other local schools at the James Clemens College Fair will include Birmingham-Southern College, Calhoun Community College, J.F. Drake State Technical College, Faulker University and Jacksonville State University.

Representatives from military schools will discuss admissions for The Citadel and the United States Army, Army National Guard, Navy and Marines institutions.

Private businesses that assist students, especially in college admission testings, will attend from Appleton and North Alabama Center for Educational Excellence (NACEE), along with Dr. Praveena Kommidi for ACT, SAT and tutoring services.
