Heritage students claim honors at Perennial Math

MADISON – Students in grades 3-6 aced several honors at the Perennial Math Tournament at the University of Alabama in Huntsville on Nov. 2.

Heritage sixth-graders earning individual awards were Neil Chaudhary and Vishay Ram in a tie for first place; Steve Yoon, second place; and Joy Onawola, third place. Fifth-grader Duke Yeom earned second-place dibs.

Individually, Emily Lee won first place in fourth-grade competition. In third grade, Alisha Tan earned second place, and Shaivi Pandey took third place.

The sixth-grade team with Neil Chaudhary, Dee Edulakanti, Max Steiner and Steve Yoon won third place. Also taking third place, the fourth-grade team included Ashton Frankowiak, Emily Lee, Parth Kommidi, Vaishali Ojha and Olivia Ruble.

“What a great showing for our first tournament this year!” Heritage Principal Dr. Georgina Nelson said.

Faculty sponsors are Sarah Stewart, Sharon VanderWal and Lee Walls.

“While the students were testing, the parents were allowed to team up and try their hand at one of the tests,” Nelson said. “We’re proud to announce that Heritage parents tied for first with a perfect score on the test.”

Heritage students entered the Rocket City Junior Math Mania on Nov. 16.
