On Saturday, a “Downton Abbey” party at Barnes & Noble will ‘serve’ to help Madison Public Library.

“We have partnered with Madison Public Library many times in the past,” Kim Barley said. Barley coordinates community relations for Barnes & Noble.

“We felt by having the library host the ‘Downton Abbey’ party in the store would be a wonderful opportunity to continue that relationship,” Barley said. “Our customers as well as booksellers will enjoy participating in the fun activities we have planned.”

“Downton Abbey” resonates with many Barnes & Noble customers. “Hosting an event to celebrate the show is a natural fit,” Barley said.

On Dec. 14, shoppers will test their trivia knowledge about the British characters and can participate in a costume contest. Guests will be challenged to fold a napkin properly and can join an etiquette class. Library ‘servants’ will offer tea and ‘biscuits.’

“Downton Abbey” merchandise will be sold. Any purchase of Barnes & Noble items can benefit the library. “When making a purchase, just tell the cashier that you are a Madison Public Library supporter,” Barley said.

The fourth season of “Downton Abbey” has “the whole world waiting to learn how the beloved characters deal with shocking tragedy,” Barley said. “The acclaimed ensemble is back, together with some amazing returning talent. It’s exciting.”

Barley promises a fun event for all fans. “You do not have to be a ‘Downton Abbey’ fan to help the library with this fundraiser — just a fan of Madison Public Library,” Barley said. The library will directly receive a portion of the day’s sales.

The fundraiser will run all day from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. The “Downton Abbey” party hours will be 1 to 3 p.m.

Barnes & Noble’s address is Bridge Street Towne Center, 300 The Bridge Street, Suite 100 in Huntsville. For more information, call Barley at 256-327-8700 or email to crm2287@bn.com.
