MADISON – Wreaths of all colors, textures and themes are brightening Madison Public Library during the holiday season.

“We had several new entries this year for the Festival of Wreaths,” branch manager Sarah Sledge said. The Madison Friends of the Library started the activity in 2012 to give artists and organizations a venue to show their work while celebrating Christmas.

Fantasy Playhouse Children’s Theatre used happy court jesters standing in mounds of shiny baubles to advertise their production of “A Christmas Carol.” Madison City Council’s wreath has each councilman’s district number in blue, white and silver.

Each Garden Ranger decorated a peat pot and then assembled the pots to form a wreath. In grades 2-5, the rangers tend to the Madison Children’s Garden – A Living Library.

American Association of University Women and North Alabama Railroad Museum participated this year. The library’s wreath used silver-glitter light bulbs to emphasize “Reading Lights up the Mind.” The library’s youth services department also entered.

“The wreaths are really gorgeous, and it’s fun to see all the creativity,” ‘Friends’ president Stephenie Walker said. Friends member Mary Wood served as Festival of Wreaths chairperson.

For its “Come Be a Winner” theme, Madison Senior Center embellished with winning Bingo cards. The Dyslexia Center at Lindsay Lane Christian Academy presented red-and white candy-cane festoons peppered with student photographs.

Photos of adoptable dogs and cats, along with chew toys, covered Madison Animal Rescue Foundation’s wreath (MARF). Other participants were the Alabama Auxiliary – Wives Behind the Badge Inc. (WBTB), Library Journal’s Mystery Debut of the Month, United Way, Red Hat Society and Huntsville/Madison County Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Madison Hospital Guild advertised the upcoming Medi-Gras gala with a Mardi Gras wreath. Madison Garden Club decorated with summer flowers and a painted watering can. Rooks, pawns and kings in red and black flocked Madison City Chess League’s entry.

Madison Public Library is located at 130 Plaza Blvd. For more information, call 256-461-0046 or visit madison@hmcpl.org.
