MADISON COUNTY – The National Weather Service (NWS) is forecasting a major winter storm across the Tennessee Valley.

The NWS in Huntsville has issued a Winter Storm Watch for Feb. 10 at 3 p.m. through Feb. 11 at noon.

Snow accumulations between two to four inches are forecast for North Alabama and one to three inches in Southern Middle Tennessee with sleet amounts less than one-half inch.

A Winter Storm Watch means a potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations may impact travel.

Significant wintry precipitation will likely impact travel across North Alabama and Southern Middle Tennessee from Monday afternoon into Tuesday.

On Sunday afternoon, colder air is expected to filter into Madison County. A strong arctic cold front will move southeast through the region.

A combination of snow and sleet is expected to develop by Monday afternoon. As a series of upper level disturbances move across North Alabama, the snow should continue Monday night and into Tuesday.

Madison, Morgan, Limestone and other North Alabama counties are included in the watch, along with Southern Middle Tennessee.

The NWS recommends motorists to be prepared for weather conditions with a travel safety kit.

Supplies in a safety kit should include batteries, blankets, first aid kit, pocket knife, tow rope, shovel, road maps and GPS equipment, ice scraper and brush, sand and cat litter for traction, water and non-perishable food and a mobile phone and with a charger suitable for the vehicle.
