MADISON – Parents looking for summer activities for their children can take advantage of new options in the 2014 Summer Day Program offered by Madison City Schools.

The Columbia and Heritage elementary school campuses will offer day camps.

Camps will open May 28 and run through July 25. Camps will close for the July 4 holiday.

The day camps “will provide an exciting and enriching summer program in a safe and pleasant environment,” Heritage Principal Dr. Georgina Nelson said. Mark McCrory is Columbia’s principal.

Camps will offer diverse “enjoyable and developmentally appropriate activities, which will vary at each school. The local school will provide a daily and monthly schedule,” Nelson said.

Children can arrive as early as 7 a.m. Parents must pick up children no later than 6 p.m. A late fee applies at $1 per minute. Each month, families will receive a summer day calendar.

Field trips for swimming, bowling, skating, going to watch a movie and visiting local parks are typical activities. A bus and certified driver from the district’s transportation department will take children to and from activities.

At no extra charge, campers can eat a light breakfast of cereal, milk and juice from 7:15 to 8 a.m. Children must bring lunch in a bag or box labeled with his or her name. The program will provide special lunches occasionally.

Children in the extended-day program have priority for summer camp. A camper must attend that particular school.

Madison City Schools requires a non-refundable summer registration and activity fee of $125 per child. Payment is due by May 1; afterwards, the fee increases to $150.

Weekly tuition for one child is $120. The daily charge is $35 per child. For two children, tuition is $190 or $46 daily. For three children, tuition is $250 or $58 daily.

Each child can have a one-week vacation without fees.
