HUNTSVILLE – Over $1 million was raised in 2013 for various causes for United Way of Madison County, and at least six companies based either partly or completely in the city of Madison had a part in that.

Those entities, which include Madison City Schools, Paul Finley Consulting, Redstone Federal Credit Union and Intergraph, were honored at the 2013 Campaign Celebration Event May 16 at the AL.com hub in downtown Huntsville.

“United Way is county-wide,” Finley said. “And with Madison being the second-largest city in the county, we have a significant part in that.”

In all, 39 companies from Madison County were invited to the celebration, with local representatives from national brands such as DirecTV and Publix in attendance. Publix earned the Pinnacle Award, in recognition of the company with the greatest overall workforce campaign among its employees.

The Parkway Place Mall Belk location received the Synergy Award for having the greatest increase in employee participation in 2013 for United Way. Madison resident Janet Brown was among those accepting the award for Belk.

Ron Poteat, North Alabama Executive for Regions Bank, was also in attendance on behalf of branches all over Madison County, including three in the city of Madison.

Other banks with branches in Madison that were recognized as contributors in 2013 were BB&T and CB&S Banks.

As former Madison mayor, Finley expressed satisfaction with being able to be involved with United Way post-mayoral duties.

“You can’t do everything [as mayor], but through organizations like this you can do things that previously were just out of your reach time-wise,” Finley said.

The Capital Award was also awarded to Raymond James & Associates, which achieved the greatest overall increase in workforce donations throughout 2013.
