NonProfit University to offer training for organizations’ staffs

HUNTSVILLE – The first annual NonProfit University will provide a half-day of all-inclusive training for the staffs and board members of nonprofit organizations.

The event will be held on June 12 from 11:45 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the North Hall of the Von Braun Center, 700 Monroe St. in Huntsville. Fee is $40.

NonProfit University will feature a luncheon with a keynote address by Dr. Jeremy Thornton, Coordinator of the Social Entrepreneurship Program at the Brock School of Business at Samford University. Alabama Association of Nonprofits is sponsoring Thornton. During the afternoon, presenters will conduct six concurrent training tracks.

Sponsors for the event are Community Foundation of Huntsville/Madison County, United Way of Madison County, Huntsville Hospital Foundation, North Alabama chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals, Leadership Huntsville/Madison County, Leadership Class 27 and Alabama Association of Nonprofits.

Participants can choose among six classes in three sessions. Each class lasts for 70 minutes. Subject-matter experts will lead sessions for nonprofit management, finances, marketing, fundraising and board development.

Some of the available classes will be “Show Me the Money: Keeping Your Eyes on Your Organization’s Cash”; “Branding Your Organization”; “Social Media and Websites”; and “Are You at Risk? Insurance Considerations for Nonprofits.”

Jerry Mercer with Mercer and Associates PC will discuss “Under the Microscope: Avoiding Common Nonprofit Tax and Audit Issues.” Lori King-Taylor with Trinity Performance Solutions and Paul Finley with Paul Finley Consulting will present “Strategic Planning: Navigating the Path Forward for Your Nonprofit.”

“Nonprofit 101” is an extended class that will continue throughout the three sessions and will assist the staff for emerging nonprofit organizations.
