Huntsville Havoc head coach and Madison resident Glenn Detulleo officially agreed on June 3 to a long-term contract extension that will retain Detulleo as coach through 2019.

Detulleo has been the head coach the last two seasons after taking over briefly as interim coach during the twilight of the 2011-12 season.

“I’m happy, obviously excited for the opportunity,” Detulleo said. “I’ve really enjoyed the past two years here and I look forward to more.”

The Havoc plays all home games at the Von Braun Center in downtown Huntsville and competes in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The upcoming season will be No. 11 for the franchise.

In 2013, Detulleo’s first full season as head coach, the Havoc reached the SPHL President’s Cup Championship but lost to Pensacola two games to one. Last season the Columbus Cottonmouths eliminated the Havoc in the second round.

Detulleo added that the interest in hockey in Madison has grown since he moved to the area in 2010 as a player with the Havoc.

“All of the players live in Madison now, and they’re involved with all the stores and businesses there,” he said.

“People are saying things if they see me with a Havoc hat or shirt on, so that’s great.”

The Havoc’s only SPHL Championship came in 2010 when the Havoc swept the Mississippi Surge. Detulleo said his ultimate goal while in Huntsville is to bring the President’s Cup back home.

Other personnel changes made were the promotion of Ashley Balch form vice-president to president, Clay Coleman’s promotion to vice-president and the hiring of Cline Thompson to director of ticket sales.
