MADISON – The Madison Gazebo Concert on June 26 will feature blues/rock songwriter Maxwell Russell and the Tres Locos band, also focused on blues and rock.

Madison Arts Council (MAC) coordinates the summer concerts at the Madison Gazebo on Thursdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. MAC member Laura Pope schedules performers for the concert series.

Maxwell Russell grew up in Colbert County, known for its music standouts. Russell started playing guitar as a child and eventually entered the ‘music biz’ when he was 26.

A songwriter, Russell pens music that ranges from country ballads to blues, jazz and classic rock ‘n roll. He has written more then 200 songs.

Old-school delta music, boogie and swing influence Russell’s sound. He covers tunes from Howling Wolf, Ike Turner, Muddy Waters, Tony Joe White and Stevie Ray Vaughan.

Russell has recorded two albums with his band, The Shakedown Kings. For more information, visit Facebook/Maxwell Russell.

“We thank Madison Hospital for graciously sponsoring the June concerts,” MAC President Shrail Heinrich said.

Also on the June 26 bill, Tres Locos will jam with their blend of blues and rock. Band members are Mike Slaten, guitar and vocals; Matt Collins, playing drums and spoons and helping with vocals; and Kasey Charles on bass.

Organized in 2013, Tres Locos bills itself as a “psychedelic blues rock power trio.” This Huntsville-based band has played gigs as diverse as The Kaffeeklatsch and North Alabama clubs to an impromptu visit to the Crossroads in the Mississippi Delta (Facebook/treslocosmusic).

Concessions will be available. Piper and Leaf Artisan Tea Co. will sell their refreshing tea brews and beverages. Sady’s Bistro from Main Street in Madison will have sandwiches for a light supper during the concert.

“Picnic baskets are welcome, too,” Heinrich said.

For the children in the audience, Mind Gear Labs will offer “an activity developed in-house called Snappies. It’s a system for kids to use straws and special connectors that they have printed three-dimensionally,” Pope said.
